Companies House is urging customers to use its online services if they are needing to file accounts by the end of December.
The department said it is continuing to follow government guidance for working safely during coronavirus (COVID-19), which means it could take longer than usual to process paper documents sent by post.
Its online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – and there are inbuilt checks to help customers avoid mistakes.
A statement from Companies House said it can take as little as 15 minutes to file online and an email will be sent immediately to confirm the department has received accounts, and another email when they have been registered.
To file online, customers will need their company authentication code. A new code can be requested but can take up to five days to arrive.
Paper accounts should only be sent if customers cannot file online. Accounts filed on paper need to be manually checked and processed during office opening hours.
