The government recently published a command paper titled Tax Policies and Consultations (Spring 2021), which set out a range of tax-related announcements including publication of consultations, discussion documents and calls for evidence.

The measures set out in this paper will shape the next steps in delivering the government’s tax administration strategy, announced in July 2020, the government said.

The paper also includes a range of policy announcements and updates that will support wider improvements in the tax system, including on business rates and environmental taxes, as well as measures to drive down non-compliance and enhance simplification.

HMRC said it’s working to deliver the Tax Administration Strategy, and to improve the resilience and effectiveness of the country’s tax administration system.

Further, HMRC said it is keen to engage with stakeholders on these measures and reforms, and that scrutiny of these tax measures will increase the overall quality of tax policy and legislation on which millions of taxpayers ultimately rely.
