Describe yourself to us? I am a professional accountant with diversified experience in forensic, audit and finance across 24 years. Over time, I have developed leadership qualities through opportunities to act as a business partner and best use my qualifications. I am also a member of professional bodies like the ACFE, IIC and CFPI in the US.

Why is the future bright with the IFA? Over the last few years, we have observed Saudi Arabia become an emerging market for professionals having IFRS knowledge. Members are growing across the whole Gulf Cooperation Council region. I’m honoured as an IFA member to update my professional accountancy knowledge and skills, which help me in strategic decision-making.

What is the most interesting part about your job? I have the freedom to work in diversified industries. Currently I’m working in packaging and printing. I am responsible for revamping planning, strategies, policies and procedures to enhance the business’s activities in a professional way.

Most embarrassing/ funny moment in your career? When I came from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, I felt the cultural difference in the working environment because I previously had not worked within a multi-cultural environment. In order to fit in, I had to employ empathy and tolerance, and work with harmony while being diligent. After some time, things started to change and I found the strength to overcome these barriers.

Best/most inspirational moment in your career? I started my career as an accountant in 1995, from that time striving for excellence of my career growth with the help of professional bodies from the US and UK through continuous education. I achieved my target as a professional accountant with the IFA in 2020.

Who is your role model, in life or in your career – and why? My role model is Bill Gates. He is a visionary person whose ideas transformed the business world and changed the lives of billions of people around the world.

Favourite food? I love to eat typical Pakistani foods like biryani.

Most useful tech tool or app and why? Smartphones and the internet – so I can work from anywhere, anytime!

How do you spend your time away from your role? When I have free time, I spend my time with the family and friends, watching movies/news, and listening to music.

What do you see as the path ahead for you and you career? Well, career development is a never-ending process. Currently I am working in a business partner role and I feel I can be most suited for chief executive officer or similar position in an organisation in the near future.
