Maintaining quality is an ongoing process

The summer months provide me with an excellent opportunity to take stock of training I have completed and to identify the professional development I still want to undertake for the remainder of the year.

I expect that many of you do the same exercise understanding that this is an ongoing process, one which doesn’t stop just because you have accumulated the required number of CPD hours.

Rather, you recognise the importance of keeping your knowledge up to date to ensure that you remain competent and professional. I am delighted to announce that one way of achieving this is at the IFA virtual conference on Thursday 25 November. This will be an international event open to all members. Details are currently being finalised, but expect to receive more information very soon.

While reviewing your training plan I encourage you to look at the events we have scheduled on ifa.org.uk/ cpd. Webinars include our popular series on tax, starting out in practice, developing your practice, along with our regular quarterly technical updates on the preparation of financial statements and annual statutory accounts.

Your training review may well extend to others in your team and, if that’s the case, do explore our education programme, IFA Direct. There are 14 flexible online study units which include financial accounting, assurance, business taxation, and core reporting for strategic business.

While maintaining technical expertise is vital it’s also essential that we take care of our mental health. During May we held two free well-being webinars which attracted more than 480 attendees. Feedback was extremely positive and this and other webinar recordings can be viewed on our YouTube channel - Institute FA.

As an anti-money laundering supervisory body we are subject to review by the Office for Professional Body Anti-Money Laundering Supervision (OPBAS). We take pride in having a consistently high standard of supervision and I’m pleased that early feedback from our OPBAS review in May indicates a successful visit.
